The last available data for fatal injuries occurring in working conditions come from 2010 “State Occupational Injuries, Illnesses, and Fatalities” report from Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The report summarizes statistical data for frequency of injuries both fatal and non-fatal.
It is interesting to investigate which states and industries lead in frequency of injuries and try to make some of our own conclusions as to why.
In order to quickly interpret the data we can go ahead and read a summary of the report, but to make things more interesting we wanted to visualize the rate of fatal injuries by state.
The following interactive map shows which states and industries have the highest fatal injury rates. As you can tell, Gene (who designed this graphic) likes King of the Hill and has a strange sense of humor.
